Blackout Communication is operated by Blackout Communications in Canada. It is a private messenger at www.blackoutcommunications.com. We do not sell your conversations, and we do not scan messages to train ads or profiles.

Account data. We store the email you sign in with, whether that email is confirmed, your username, display name, billing status, and the friend graph you create (requests and accepted contacts). Sign-in is email and password only. We send a confirmation email when you create an account. You can change your email, username, screen name, and password in Account. Changing email requires your current password and a new confirmation of the new address. If you write us through Contact, we keep the name, email, and message so we can reply.

App lock. On the phone app, you can ask for fingerprint or face unlock, with a 4–6 digit backup PIN. You can turn the lock off, or wait 5, 10, 15, 30, or 60 minutes after you leave the app. The unlock and the PIN stay on that phone. We never receive them. The PIN is stored only as a hash on the device. On the website, a PIN lock is optional.

Messages. On Blackout Communication Premium, your texts are encrypted on your device before they are stored. We cannot read those texts. On Blackout Communication Basic, messages are stored in the clear so the other person can read them later. In a mixed chat, the Premium side stays sealed. If you turn on disappearing messages, we delete those texts from our servers when the timer you set ends (from 1 hour up to 72 hours). Messages sent with vanish off are not deleted on a timer.

Keys. Encryption keys for Premium live on your device. If you clear this browser or switch devices without them, sealed history on this device cannot be opened.

Billing. Prices are in Canadian dollars. On the website, Stripe processes the card. On the phone app, Apple processes the subscription and we store Apple’s transaction id so we can unlock the same plan. We store plan, period, and — on the website — the last four digits of the card used so we can show your receipt.

Invites. If you use someone’s invite link, we store that you were referred by them so we can credit their points after you pay. We store your invite code and points balance. Points stay on the account and are saved for future upcoming promotions.

Reports. If you report someone, we keep the report, your comment, and account identifiers so operators can act. We do not use reports for advertising.

Device and alerts. On the phone app we store a push token so we can tell you when someone messages you or wants to add you. Calls use the microphone and, if you turn video on, the camera. Call audio and video are live only; we do not keep recordings.

Access and deletion. You can delete your account in Account. That removes your profile, friend links, numbers, and message history we hold for you. An Apple subscription keeps billing until you cancel it in phone Settings. To ask for a copy of account data we hold, email contact@blackoutcommunications.com.
